Angela Evans NS219 kindly sent me the following write up from this years Mens National Championships. All North Shropshire Drivers did us proud at the weekend

Class 8: Geoff Berrisford made history at this years nationals by being the first man to win the Nationals in class 9, 10 and now class 8, we all know how close the class 8′s are so well done Geoff from us all in the Club. 

Class 3: Martin Gould won class 3 again for the third time, also a hard close class ~ again well done Martin from us all in the Club.

We are all proud of you both for representing the club in the highest possible way.

As a club I think we did very well over the weekend as including Geoff and Martin we had a further 8 other finalists at the end of the weekend ~ Mike Compton in Class 4, John Wilde in Class 5, Ben Gould in Class 6, Andy Pipe in Class 7, Mike Holroyd and Mark Lawrence in Class 10, considering how many cars attends the nationals I think you should all be very proud of your achievements.

Mike Compton finished in 4th in the final, as did Mark Lawrence in Class 10. 

Liam Evans drove brilliantly in his Class 10 having being paired with Phil Rodgers who was behind him in both heats but 2 2nds and a 3rd was unfortunately not enough to make the final.

Jonny Williams in Class 9 also had a 1st ,2nd and a 7th but these were not enough to get to the final.

Sam Gould in Class 9 also had a 1st and 2 x 4ths but which were not enough to make the final.

Gareth Williams Class 5 had a 2 x 2nds and a 7th which unfortunately put him out of the final.

Josh Fowler in Class 1 had a 4th place finish, but unfortunately suffered with problems with car.

Neville Mower in Class 3 won his first heat but then he also suffered car problems.

Leon Dorsett in Class 3 had a 2nd and 2 x 6ths .

Paul Darlington in Class 5 did not have a very good time ~ he was winning heat one but then had a collision.

Ian Spencer in Class 8 had a credible 2nd 4th and a 6th.

The committee have decided to change the venue for this year’s North Shropshire Presentation Evening !  As we are sure that this is going to prove very popular with Club Members and also Friends of the club we thought it would be a good idea to announce the details nice and early on in the season so that no-one is disappointed by not knowing all the details as soon as the committee had made this decision.

Pat has asked if it can be posted on here regarding “The Pet Blood Bank”, lots of grassers have dogs.  Have you considered if your dog has an accident and needs replacement blood where that would come from ? if you fancy volunteering your dog as a Dog Blood Donor have a look at www.petbloodbankuk.org they should be able to point you in the right direction for offering your dog as a potential donor, there are a few requirements to begin with, your dog must have a good temperament, be aged between one and eight years old and weigh more than 25 kilos, oh and your dog must not have travelled abroad!  Its an interesting subject, check out the website if you are interested in more information.

This years Ladies & Juniors Nationals is being hosted by Scunthorpe & District MSC, @ Blyton Airfield, off B1205, Nr Blyton, Lincs. DN21  3PE on the 4th & 5th of September.

Angela Evans (NS219) has asked that any Ladies & Juniors hoping to go to this years Nationals who have not yet paid could they please pay their national money to Angela, she will be collecting tickets from the Mens Nationals which we be given out out soon as Angela see’s you, tickets cost £20.

I had a nice email from Phil & Linda Owen regarding the results of last weekends BAS Round, it sounds like all the NS drivers that attended had a good weekend & all did well.

Dan Owen (NS15 Junior Special) did particularly well winning his 1st & 3rd heat and coming 4th in the B Final for the weekend! Well Done Dan ! The future looks very bright for this keen and confident young racer keep it up ! Heat 1 – 1st/Heat 2 – 7th/Heat 3 – 1st/B Final – 4th

Also Angela Evans (NS219) has kindly emailed some other results:

Sam Gould (NS343 Class 9) has to have the main applause as he drove absolutely fantastic, he won all his heats then went out and won the final ~ Good Driving from Sam ~ a well deserved Win !

Leon Dorsett (NS293 Class 3) drove well but missed out on making the final, as did Andy Pipe (NS205 Class 7). Sams dad Martin Gould (NS334 Class 3) did well with two 1sts in the heats and then went on to get 4th in the final, unfortunately Ben Gould (NS434 Class 6)  did not have the same luck and he suffered mechanical problems which put him out of final, never mind Ben there’s always another race meeting

Josh Fowler (Ns697 Class 1), Class 8 Geoff Berrisford (NS55) and Tom Chadwick (NS151) all did us proud.

Liam Evans (NS120 Class 10) had bad luck after winning his 1st heat, he finished 6th in his 2nd heat due to his steering wheel coming off  Liam was in line for winning his 3rd heat but unfortunately he was given a black flag after the race had finished due to his exhaust coming off after a collision with another car

John Wilde (NS70 Class 5) had good heat’s throughout the weekend and made the final, which he was winning until the race was stopped, then after the restart John could only manage to finish in 3rd place.

Cary Evans (NS249 Class 2) also had good heats and made the final to finish a respectable 2nd behind Lee Evason (SR54 STAR).

All the junior drivers drove really well,  Joe Pipe (NS206 Junior Saloons) won all his heats and Will Henry (NS19 Junior Saloons) also drove well and made the B Final, but we don’t know how you both did in the final’s? So Joe & Will, if you are reading this and want your final result putting on this section please email me at startlinem@talktalk.net  

One final point is in relation to Gary Mertin (NS119 Class 2) we are pleased to announce that he managed to race all the heats this weekend, apparently at the 2nd BAS round he unfortunately missed his last heat, not down to a mechanical problem, just he was talking so much that he missed his heat (Angela says ”nothing unusual there”) Gary Gary Gary….

This years Mens Nationals is being hosted by the West Midland League and will take place on the 7th & 8th of August. The track is located at Thingehill Court, Withington, Hereford, HR1 3QG. More information regarding this weekend is provided on the Yorkshire Dales Forum.

All drivers participating will be given at information pack by Pat Ashley. If you are on the above list and for some reason you find out you are unable to attend the Nationals please let Pat know as soon as possible so that your place can be reallocated to another driver. I’m sure thats lots of you will be going along to show your club drivers plenty of support and on behalf of all your fellow club members and the club committee I wish you all the best of luck !
